Presenting a few pics and my thoughts about my trip to a place called Scotland Yard in New South Wales (about 40km from Sydney) about 6 years back. A place with less than a thousand souls, surrounded by lush greenery, blue water and hills all around. Some of the visuals I'd seen out there still remain etched deep within me.
The visuals keep reminding me of the indomitable spirit of islanders to overcome loneliness and find ways to lift themselves up, time and again. It teaches us that when you're alone and don't have anybody to lift you up, you don't have to look anywhere else, but within!
And I'm sure we've all got a chance to experience this first hand, thanks to the COVID times that we're all enduring. Here are some pics and a few lines trying to describe this very emotion - the spirit of Islanders. Talking about which, I'm reminded of I am a Rock, by Simon and Garfunkel! Read on...
You're going strong, dancin' all along
All guns blazing, confidence held high;
Basking in the glory, nestled atop the tallest of trees.
Delighted that you've come a long way and there's no looking back,
And, out of nowhere, Isolation strikes!
You're suddenly staring at emptiness all around.
Crying out for help, Fending for yourself,
Feeling like a dead log, Introspecting,
Seeking out an endearing memory.
The one that brings out a lovely grin on your face!
The one which lifts you up,
Makes you grab those rails, and start walking.
The one which makes you climb stairs,
And gives you wheels!
While you're at it,
Do remember, to take a pause and soak them all in.
Coz' next time you're away and isolation strikes,
These, are the ones that bring you back!
